Why do I want to get an Appraisal?
Owners wondering actual worth
Who should I hire to get my horse Appraised?
A good appraiser is in compliance with the National Standards of the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) and is aware & current with the local Market. “Recently, the Appraisal Qualifications Board (ABQ) in Washington D.C., adopted the Personal Property Appraiser Minimum Qualification Criteria. These national Criteria were established to assure that professional, personal propertyappraisers are fully qualified to do their work.”
Do I still need an Appraisal for my horse even though the Insurance Company isn’t requiring one?
Yes! Horse owners are not necessarily protected by an “Agreed Value” on their Equine’s Insurance Policy...Underwriters can still challenge the current market value of the horse by hiring an appraiser who doesn’t think your horse was really worth what it was insured for.
Do I need an Appraisal for my horse even though I am going to donate it?
Yes! If you would like to declare it as a “write-off”. The Internal Revenue Service requires a certified Equine Appraisal to support horse donations of greater than $5,000.
How much does an appraisal cost?
Rates vary depending on the location of the property and the type of Appraisal(s) needed.
Is the Value of my horse affected by the Current Economy?
Yes, since markets are constantly changing, the value of horse(s) may vary considerably.
